About our Counseling Department

The CVA Counseling Department provides information and assistance to our students and parents for: 

  • standardized testing

  • classes and scheduling

  • diploma requirements

  • career options

  • college opportunities and application processes and deadlines

  • scholarship searches and deadlines

  • transcripts and recommendation letters

  • dual enrollment in both academic and technical programs in conjunction with Troy University, the University of Alabama Early College and Central Alabama Community College

  • meetings with college admission counselors for juniors and seniors

  • fall college planning for juniors and seniors and their parents

  • fall College Fair for sophomores, juniors, seniors and their parents

  • January/February Financial Aid Workshop for seniors and their parents to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) 

  • Academic Banquet in May where seniors awarded scholarships are recognized (The Class of 2018 was awarded in excess of $1,400,000 in scholarships.)

  • open communication with teachers, parents, and students

CVA has a technology center, as well as SmartBoards in the classrooms. Teachers may also check out Kindles for their students.

Students in grades 10-12 have the opportunity to take online classes at Troy University to earn college credits.

Core Classes
Core Classes

CVA provides a solid core curriculum to all students, including calculus and physics. Honors students can take AP tests to earn college credit.


CVA works closely with seniors to help them obtain scholarships and grants to further their education in college. The 2018 Graduates received over $1million four hundred thousand in scholarship offers.
